When you’re in need of medical care, there’s no place like home. Lewis Gale Hospital at Alleghany offers excellent diagnosis and treatment right here in the Highlands. And, because the hospital is part of the Lewis Gale family, the resources of the entire system are available.
There’s no shortage of highly skilled medical personnel. We’re located near two medical schools, as well as training at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and Jefferson College of Health Science in nearby Roanoke.

LewisGale Hospital at Alleghany, formerly known as Alleghany Regional Hospital, located in Low Moor is member of the LewisGale Regional Health System, a family of hospitals, outpatient centers and physicians. The full-service hospital offers the following specialty services:
Nearby medical facilities in the Roanoke area – about an hour’s drive – include LewisGale Medical Center, another HCA hospital; Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carilion Clinic’s flagship hospital, and a large Veteran’s Administration facility.
Health Care Education & Training
Education & training is available in the region for all levels of the profession, from physicians to nurses to technicians and assistants. There are two medical schools within an hour’s drive: Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College offers an associate’s degree in Nursing (RN) and Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate. Advanced Health Care and Emergency Medical Services certificates also are available.
Jefferson College of Health Science in Roanoke offers certificates, associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in more than 15 health care-related fields.
